There are many great snack ideas that you can use when learning about kites, this is one of the best ones. Frosting a graham cracker and adding a licorice string to it, creates a yummy kite that you can eat! Children can help in creating and decorating these as well.

Construction Paper Kites - These are fun to make and allow the children the opportunity to work on their motor skills. When you have finished them, they will not be able to fly. However, you can write each child name on them and hang them in the windows of the classroom. You will need to give each child five different colored pieces of construction paper. If you do not want to waste the paper, you can do some prep work ahead of time. You can cute many pieces of construction paper into four equal squares. Make sure you do this with many different colors. If you do this ahead of time, each child will only need one full piece of paper and four small squares of various colors.

Have the children glue the four multi-colored squares onto the larger piece of paper. The finished result should be a small quilt like piece of paper. You can then allow them to decorate their kite. A good way of doing this is to have them apply glue to the seams of the small squares. Then pour glitter onto the paper and dump of the excess.

When the kite has been decorated, and is completely dry. Help them hole punch one hole in the bottom corner of their kite. Let them tie a piece of yarn through the hole. The can decorate their string with ribbon, bows or small pieces of yarn.
