Continue reading to find a couple of great activities to do with your preschool children this summer
You do not have to be a teacher to do these activities with your preschool aged children. Parents, you can use these activities to keep your children entertained this summer as well.
I Like Summer Because - This activity is great because it works on creative thinking skills, making choices and writing/reading words. Go around the room and ask each child what their favorite thing about summer is. Remember that there is no right or wrong answer. Write each response on a large piece of paper or chalkboard. The list should be clearly visible to all of the kids. Once everyone has had a chance to respond, turn all of their ideas into a fun song. Just sing, "My favorite thing about summer is (insert one of the answers)" go through the entire list of replies.
Summer Scrapbook - You will need a scrapbook and some scrap booking supplies such as paper, stickers and page sleeves. Show the book to the class and explain to them that they are going to make a scrapbook for the classroom. Ask each child to make a page that will have a photograph of themselves on one side of the paper, and a drawing that they have made on the other side. You will need to take and develop pictures of each child. Then set some class time aside for them to draw a picture of something that they enjoy doing in the summer time. Prior to this you can take the class outside and have the children pick flowers and then press them into books for a couple of weeks.
On the front side of the scrapbook paper, write each child’s name on the top. Help each kid glue their photograph below their name. You can add boarders to the pictures for a more organized appearance. If you have pressed flowers ahead of time, you can add these to the front page as well.
Glue each of the children’s drawings to the backside of their page. Under the drawing, write a sentence or two describing the picture. For example, you could write I like to go camping in the summer because we get to roast marshmallows on sticks over a fire. When you have finished decorating the pages, insert them into the plastic sleeves, and put them into the scrapbook in alphabetical order.
The finished product will be a cute scrapbook that every child in the class has helped to make. You can read the pages with the children during circle time, or allow them to look through it themselves during free time. The kids will enjoy seeing their pages as well as their classmates.
