Moses lesson plans preschoolThrough this story, children will learn how his loving mother and heavenly father protected Moses from death. Teachers can choose to play a recorded reading of the story or read the story themselves. If they choose to tell the story themselves, they can read from a preschool age appropriate picture bible or tell the story in their own words. Allowing the children to color while listening to the story can help keep them from getting restless.

Family Portrait Activity - Cut out pictures of men, women, boys, girls and babies from magazines the day before. Create an area that the children can use to do this activity. Provide the cut out pictures, paper, crayons and glue sticks. Have the children create a family portrait of their family. They will have to pick the pictures that are most similar to people in their family. For example if there family is made up of the child, mom and a dad then they would need to choose a man, woman and girl picture. Have each child glue the pictures onto the paper, and write the name of each family member under the pictures. Allow them to decorate the collage/drawings anyway that they would like.

Baby Moses Mural - Tape four large pieces of white paper in different places around the room. They should be in locations that are clearly visible and easy for each child to reach. At the top of each paper, write one of these labels: Moses’ mother and father love Moses, Moses’ mother makes a basket for Moses, Moses’ sister watches over Moses, The king’s daughter loves Moses too. Divide the class into groups and assign each group to a piece of paper. Allow the children time to draw a picture that depicts the part of the story that the label represents.

Picture Perfect - Provide each child with a blank white piece of paper. Have them fold the paper in half twice, side to side and top to bottom. Have them lay the paper flat when they have finished the folding. The should end up with a piece of paper that has four equal boxes. You can do this ahead of time for them or use a ruler to mark the boxes more clearly. As you read the story to the children pause in four different spots. Give them five to ten minutes to draw a picture of the part of the story you have paused at, in one of the boxes. It will be interesting to see how different children will have pictured the story in their mind.

Teachers can find many activities to go along with this story. Keep in mind that the lesson should be that God protected baby Moses, and protects each one of them as well.
