A preschool child is not going to understand what endangered means, or understand fully what a vet does. It is your job to put it as simply as you can so that they understand all of these things, without having to get to technical. They will not have fun with it if they are frustrated about not understanding it.
Preschool children are just beginning to learn about patterns. This activity is a great pattern, zoo craft. Hand out orange construction paper and small square sponges. Have the children dip the sponge into brown paint, and then press the sponge onto the paper. Repeating this will eventually give you a giraffe print effect.
Cut out pictures of animals from magazines, gather foam trays, cut pieces of yarn to the length of the trays. Glue the picture of the animal into the middle of the foam tray. Poke holes in the top and bottom on the tray, and then string the yarn through the holes. Tie a knot at the end of each piece to keep it from pulling out. This one requires a lot of supervision, but when everyone has finished they will each own there own zoo animal in a cage!
